It has always been my wish members would join the forum using their real names instead all those funny names, it's dificult for you to pick out the spammers in the beginning.
Didn't know you're doing the job alone, :!:

Does this forum have one of those 'type these letters into the box below' things? I think that's designed to stop automated spammers, if it works is another matter!

Yes it does but these are real people who join to generate spam which why it's hard to stop them but I'm hoping to use a Q and A about JLL which I guess a lot of spammers won't know.In the meantime registration is stopped.

Ian,

We have been having he same problem with my dad's forum. Capitca support is (or at least was) turned on yet hundreds of obvious spam id's are being created daily. Luckily, everyone of them have to be approved so it's rare they manage bomb the forum with spam links. However, it's very time consuming to check every id and country of origin.

We turned off the ability to post live links on the forum as well. Doing so all but eliminated the unwitting from clicking on a link and being redirected to a porn or gambling site.

Good luck

Thanks Charles I have stopped all membership unless they join via the links I have setup. So we have not really had any issues with spam for a while maybe a lurker or two but that's easy to deal with.
My problem is it's made it less easy to join this forum. I have also started a new longer hours job so I find it harder to dedicate the time I want to the forum. If I had more time I would reopen membership in the usual way and vet new members.
Thanks for your input good to hear from you, hope you and your family are all well.
