Thanks. I'm planning on buying this for a long time, but I never knew if that documentary was any good or not. But to see the Killer in concert in the 50s is probably reason enough

Don't expect too much...the documentary is well worth getting (the three 1969 'The Many Sounds of Jerry Lee' clips alone make this a worthwhile purchase!), but the 50s clip is very short, silent & quite distant.

Yeah I expect this, but it's better than nothing. Thanks for the note though !

This looks like an attractively packaged way of getting hold of that short and obscure piece of JLL's 'recording' history.

Meeting Buddy Holly

Postby JusHib92 » Tue Aug 28, 2012 2:42 pm

Hey folks!

I kept quite a quiet member until now, so I thought I might start my contribution by bringing up a question to a picture I couldn't find posted anywhere around here.
Are there any known details to this picture of Jerry meeting and actually very likely playing with Buddy Holly?

Have a nice day!
Justin

Jimmy Velvet, Jerry Lee Lewis,, Don Everly & Buddy Holly during The Big Gold Records Stars Tour in Florida:

"EIN: One of the most astounding photographs in the book is of you with Jerry lee Lewis playing piano while Buddy Holly plays guitar and Don Everly of the Everly Brothers looks on. Imagine you and Jerry Lee, and Buddy Holly and Don Everly all jamming together! How did that unique moment come about?

J.V: We were on a Florida Tour and had fun jamming on stage before showtime. Phil Everly actually took the photo with my camera. We had a great time.

EIN: There seem to be plenty of other unique events documented in the book where lots of artists are hanging around together. Do you know if any of these unbelievable musical gatherings were ever recorded? Are there missing tapes that you’d love to find?

J.V: I don't know of any missing tapes. If there are any, what a find that would be!"

Wow, thanks a lot!

Can't imagine how great it would have been to be in the crowd of one of those concerts...

29) BUDDY HOLLY and JERRY LEE LEWIS THE MIAMI, FLORIDA TAPES

On 24 February 1958, local Miami reporter Bob Chesney secured a brief interview with Buddy Holly and managed to capture a couple of live clips of the star during a backstage jam singing "Everyday" and "I Love Her So" with Jerry Lee Lewis on piano.

Thanks for info Carsten, but I doubt that the picture-caption is correct in point of JW.
