Your first record?

Your first record?

Postby yorkshire88 » Tue Sep 11, 2012 7:05 pm

I grew up as a teenager and starting getting into music in the mid 1980s, so my first album might have been something by, say, The Smiths, The Cure, Dire Straits or Guns 'N' Roses, but alas, no, my first ever album was, I'm embarrassed to say, "Silk and Steel" by 5 Star!

I think I still have it somewhere, gathering dust. I might dig it out and see if it sounds any better 25 years on....!!

What was your first album?

I can't actually remember for sure what the first album I owned was; I used to "borrow" my parents' records from as early as 4 or 5, and sometimes they ended up staying in my collection. Could've been this:

However I do remember my first single, which my grandmother bought for me back in 1967 when I was 4 years old:

My first 45 RPM disc was Elvis Presley's "Baby Let's Play House" in 1956, my first LP album was "Here's Little Richard" in 1957.

In 1975 when my grandparents returned home from a trip in California. I was 3 years old and I loved playing with the inner flaps and looking at the front cover. Still remains my favorite album.

I know many of you are going to comment on the fact that I posted an image of the "COMPLETE" London Sessions which was not out in 1975...I meant to post an image of the official release from Mercury.

Sad to say, but I was a bit of a tearaway in my youth (until in 1960 I met the girl I was to marry - still together now) and the first record I ever shop-lifted was Fats Domino's 'Blueberry Hill', on London-American, of course.
I hope the Statute of Limitations is still in effect, otherwise I completely deny this statement!

'Tore Up', but by some long-forgotten British group. I mislaid the 45 years ago, along with quite a few others before I got really into mainly American 1950's rock'n'roll/rockabilly and Country music.
Long ago in Ferriday down in Louisiana, They all watched Jerry play and pump that old piana

This is my first record. Sweet - Fanny Adams. I still have it. It´s long before i discovered Jerry Lee, Elvis and the others. It does have a great version of "Peppermint Twist".

The LP "Rubber Soul" from the Beatles but I stopped buying their records when they recorded "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hart Cub Band"

I much prefer their 1963 to 1966 stuff too ('A Hard Day's Night' is probably my favourite album of theres). A great Merseybeat pop band.

Your first record was a boxset?

Few here are stating their ages at the time, though I suspect very few were as young as 4 years old like I was.

Yes, this was when I was about 10-12 years old. Just like you, before this I was listening to records from my parent's collection, my mom bought her first Elvis/Ricky Nelson/Dean Martin etc. records back in 1950's.
