Great version!

Yes it is. But I seem to be unable to download YouTube videos lately, this is the third or fourth in a row which comes up 'Format error'. I wonder if YouTube have installed something to stop people downloading? I've used various programs/software in the past, but all stop working after a while. Latest is Firefox video downloader, but now that doesn't seem to work either, or if it does, only with some YouTube clips. Any ideas?

Thanks Peter. This worked better than the Firefox software. Straight to MP4, Firefox had to be converted after downloading.

Ian - what was happening was instead of downloading in a few minutes, it appeared to download in about a second, far too quick. Then when you tried to play it back it said the format was wrong.

Why do you need them to be mp4? Flv's should play just as easily on a computer (& with FLV there's a choice of file sizes, often bigger & better quality than the mp4 option).

.flv is OK if it works, but when downloading from YouTube or from my mobile phone, the video clips don't come out properly. From YouTube you can't play back at all (no sound, no picture), from the mobile phone you get picture but no sound.

However with this site you've told me about I'll try flv format again. I hadn't noticed the quality was different, and play all clips back on my .flv player whatever format they're in.

Strangely I find FLV files easier to play than mp4s, but both should be ok via Windows Media Player with additional (free) plug ins, or alternatively there's other free designated flv players available. I always download in the best quality, as I often convert them to DVD afterwards.

Just my two cents:

I use "keepvid" for years and it has always worked and usually gives you the option of a number of formats and quality to download.

While I do have the Windows media player I would recommend the "VLC" media player which is free and more compatible to various file formats.

Keepvid was one of those I used to use regularly, but it stopped working for me some time ago for some reason.

I also use VLC media player which I find very good. I did try downloading in .flv format yesterday but still no picture or sound. Only MP4 and MPEGs seem to work properly.

If you're just watching them on a shitty little screen then shitty quality doesn't matter.

I find the quality varies according to the YouTube quality, which is sometimes not that brilliant. I do play most of them back in full screen mode on the PC and for many of them the quality is quite acceptable I find.

For some poor quality YouTube videos I keep the image smaller.

What I mean is, I doubt if your computer screen is as big as your TV. That's why I need things in the best available quality.

But Peter do you sitt as close to let,s say a 55 inches TV as you do in front of your
computer :?:But of course the best available quality is always the best even at the computerscreen 8)
I have only made one DVD from YouTube and that,s London 83.the quality ain,t that good but when i looking at it from my normal distance to the TV it,s okay.

Does anyone know how to download rutube videos? None of the usual video download software or sites seem to work! This is the clip I'm after...
