Initial thoughts? JLL looking very frail but he sound more on pitch than when I saw him in 2015, but he's understandably slowing. Has that drummer played with him before? It's hard to tell listening to a youtube clip, but several times the beat and JLL go out of sync (and not just on that massive clusterfuck at the start of Down The Line). JLL needs a drummer that follows him, not lays down their own relentless rhythm. Even these days.
Given he recently cancelled a concert , great to see him out and about if not at full pelt. Kenny Arnott has been playing drums for 18 months or so . As Wolfgang noted in his L.A. review , whilst he is a gifted drummer he doesn't know Jerry so well as Robert Hall. I think previous comments about the length of show / value for money etc. I'm with Scott on that. If people choose to spend their money it's up to them. Jerry hardly short-changed them with a set 5 or 6 minutes shorter than average and opening with another huge surprise. And NYE in Memphis - seeing Jerry in his own club has to be the best ticket in town.
