Forget the guests, but I think Jerry himself was more inspired here than in Toronto a few days earlier. Also these are probably the best performances to show of Jerry's diverse talents; Rock 'n' roll, country, pop standards, gospel; piano, guitar, drums!

Most of the '80's concerts has one or two boring numbers in my opinion, even London '83 (Georgia On My Mind, Would You Take Another Chance On Me), but every song here seems to feature Jerry giving it his very best.

Toronto for me somehow doesn't capture the essence of Jerry Lee's stage act in the 1960s as well as 'Many Sounds of Jerry Lee'.

The 5 episodes of this could easily be issued as a DVD, possibly with the guests removed, so it was just a continuous selection of Jerry Lee singing and playing, much like the Shindig! video/DVD I guess only in color.
Long ago in Ferriday down in Louisiana, They all watched Jerry play and pump that old piana

Personally I'd release them on DVD with all the guests, but also include a "play JLL only" option! 8)

I agree. This is JLL on top. And the band is the best I've ever heard playing with him.

1969 was an incredible year for Jerry. Top form , fantastics TV Shows (Ed Sullivan, Music Scene,Many Sounds..) or live shows like Toronto(although I think he was not so great there..too much relaxed)..

And let's not forget 'This Is Tom Jones', 'The Mike Douglas Show' & 'Hee Haw'... I'm sure he had many other fantastic years that we have little proof of (1967 for example), but 1969 certainly remains my favourite year for Jerry on TV! 8)

I also think Jerry looked at his very best from 1966 to 1972 (and especially 1966 to 1969). 8)

I would say: 1968-1972 (although I notice first problems on his voice on this last year ).1973 seems a bridge beetween the best years ans worst years(1974-1976 in my opinion)..a lot of activity(London Sessions, Ole opry, TV shows,etc..) but at the end of the year his voice is quite cracked...

I said looked, not sounded. It's very difficult to tell apart many photos from 1966 & 1969.

In 1976 (after his sinus operation in February) Jerry was in great voice, same as 1977.

That's a matter of opinion; everyone has a different idea of what's "worse" or "better". For instance after his 1981 illness his voice got weaker but he could also hit the high notes better than in the previous few years. So was it better or worse?
