Thanks for this. How strange that Jerry Lee and Fats Domino should both have tribute concerts dedicated to them in the same week.

From the write-up it seems we are not going to see/hear Fats do a lot more shows, which is a pity.

But I'm glad these guys are now being honored and recognized whilst they are still alive.

Yes its great they are being honoured in this way. It is a shame that it looks like that Fat's will not be very active (touring wise) in the near future. I guess, however, after going through somthin like Hurricane Katrina it must take a long time to recover from. Who can blame him (or Jerry Lee for that matter) to sit back and bathe in some what belated glory!!

Great. He looks and sounds the same as he did 50 or 60 years ago!

It's an excellent book and author Coleman has won a few awards with it, particularly good on the sociological detail of how important cross over r&b stars like Fats were towards breaking down the racial barriers that eventually gave way with the early 60s legislature

I'm reading another excellent r&b book by James M Salem at the moment called The Late Great Johnny Ace (& the transition from R&B to RnR) first published in paperback in 2001 by University Of Illinois Press, just finished the Dewey Phillips book which I found so so,JLL hardly features in it, all about Elvis mainly

There are two more parts:

Part 5 The Today Show
http://blog.nola.com/living/2007/11/fat ... day_s.html

Part 6 Goin' home
http://blog.nola.com/living/2007/11/fat ... _goin.html

According to the last part, Fats considers working again. Currently in the can: "Late Show With David Letterman" & a concert at the Apollo Theatre.

I'm still looking for any good Fats Domino footage that hasn't been released officially on DVD. I know there were several good telecasts during the '80s... :?

One of my biggest regrets is never seeing Fats Domino 'live'. I had plenty of opportunities during the 80s & early 90s but I let them slip by...
