Hello the truly great voice of Aretha Franklin is no more. Am I the only one who has read about Aretha Franklin’s death? Apart from Richard Penniman; Aretha Franklin can lay claim to have had' post WW2' greatest singing voice. If only she had recorded in the 1950’s or done a JLL song no doubt this forum would be full of praise for her. Well, I for one was/am in wonder of her unique talent RIP Aretha Franklin

Nice version of 'Dark End Of The Street' (though give me James Carr's original any time).

Although saddened by her death, I must confess that I've always found her extremely overrated. Etta James, and before her, Ruth Brown and LaVerne Baker, could easily out-sing her. I do have a "hits" collection, but it has rarely been played, and I've never felt the urge to investigate her music further.

Having said that, there's no doubting her tremendous influence; every female singer on TV "talent" shows, no matter what their colour or country, attempt to sing like her.
