R.I.P. CHUCK BERRY!!!

If anybody got the full version of the ceremony let me know. I saw about 90 minutes of it and I liked what I saw so far. As you put it, Richard, dignified and tasteful. Good to see true friends of Chuck like Patrick and Daryl there.

I think the open casket in the US is rather common unlike in Europe. They also did it with all the other legends that have already passed on. But with Chuck at first I did not know whether it was a good idea. He completely disappeared from the public when he got too ill to perform in 2014 and I had no idea what he looks like now. I know some people completely change their appearance to the worse once they get deadly ill. I feared he may look horrible now. Well, what I can say. I instantly recognised him on the pics. This is definitely the body of Chuck Berry that I knew and will always remember plus captain's cap and his guitar.

It is sad to see him in his casket, but he also looks at peace. If his soul is flying around somewhere, I am sure it will appreciate the efforts of those, who truly loved him.

I do not like it if politicans like Bill or Hillary Clinton get quoted. Chuck did not only roll over beethoven, but over all of those damn politicians with their agenda as well.

I watched the entire ceremony now and I must say all contributions on stage were a fitting tribute to the man.

Chuck was very, very much the creator of his own world. He was very private at home, and as much as we know he could be a rascal on tour, it seems he really did "keep the homefires burning" and keep his family close. I doubt if the quote about his new album came from his own lips, (when he dedicated it to his 'Toddy'), but it was a nice touch. They must have been the longest married couple in rock history!

For me, the best part was seeing my old buddy Johnny Rivers singing his composition "Blue Suede Blues". Rivers played many shows with Chuck through the years, was Chuck's guest on IN CONCERT on ABC-TV in 1974 where there sang "Memphis" together, and recorded more of Chuck's songs than anyone else (14 to date) and had gold top ten hits with "Memphis" and "Maybelline". He also played with Chuck at Blueberry Hill in St. Louis on Chuck's 80th birthday.

I heard that when the funeral went over the hour mark, someone had to put extra cash in the casket to get him to stay!

Chuck would have appreciated that, as long as it was in the contract!

Chuck was always open for extra money. Did not need a contract for that!

My son tells me that the latest issue (May, No. 419) of Guitarist magazine is a special "Tribute to Chuck Berry" edition. I haven't seen it yet but it might be worth checking out at your nearest newsagent.

What a shame they're using a photo that's around 45 years old! Chuck still looked cool in his 80's.

That's what I thought as well. The picture was used for several other album covers before, including one of the hip-o-select-boxes.
