I don't think I'll post a picture of her in a bikini(!) but I've just played the new compliation "Big Mama Thornton - The Complete 1950-1961" It contains all her Peacock recordings in better sound than you usually get. That sent me to my shelves to dig out her 1966 recording "Big Mama Thornton with the Muddy Waters Blues Band" which is in some ways even better than her 50s stuff. She's still not rated highly enough. She was one of the great tough r'n' b vocalists who set the bar high for imitators. But what else would you expect from a woman whose favourite drink was embalming fluid mixed with grapefruit juice!

I've just been playing Chip Taylor's "Last Chance" album mainly for the track "The Real Thing." I've had the album for 40 years and never tire of this song. Who could resist a song with this verse:
http://youtu.be/doSaLUHvG7o

I remember old Elvis
When he forgot to remember to forget
And young Johnny Cash hadn't seen this side
Of the Big River yet.
When Sun was more than daylight shining on Memphis, Tennessee
And Luther and Lewis and Perkins was pickin'
And playing them songs for me.http://youtu.be/doSaLUHvG7o

....and it's got some authentic sounding 50s era Sun guitar!

I never got any answers so i'll ask you Wolfgang :What do you know and think about her.
Even if i don't understand a word she sings i think shes so entertaining

I don't think much of her. She is pop mainstream at its worst. Certainly very unpopular with most Rock'n'Roll fans in Germany.

Lyrics are pointless. Superficial crap. You would have to pay me to go to one of her shows.

Thank you Wolfgang.Despite what you say i would easily pay what it cost to see her if she comes to let's say Ullevi Stadium in Gothenborg.

I've been listening to lots of Chuck Berry lately, if only to remind myself how great he once was after watching those recent YouTube clips! He's still my all-time favourite artist in the studio, at least during his 1955 - 1966 "Golden Decade".

I've been listening to Lene Lovich alot during the past week. Amazingly (at 64 years old) she looks and sounds exactly the same as she did in 1979! One of the all-time most original singers.
