I don't think I'll post a picture of her in a bikini(!) but I've just played the new compliation "Big Mama Thornton - The Complete 1950-1961" It contains all her Peacock recordings in better sound than you usually get. That sent me to my shelves to dig out her 1966 recording "Big Mama Thornton with the Muddy Waters Blues Band" which is in some ways even better than her 50s stuff. She's still not rated highly enough. She was one of the great tough r'n' b vocalists who set the bar high for imitators. But what else would you expect from a woman whose favourite drink was embalming fluid mixed with grapefruit juice!
