The first song is from the UK 'Love Me Tender' Elvis tribute TV special, summer 1987.

Not long after it was originally broadcast it appeared on a very poor quality bootleg video called, I think, Boppin' with Carl. The video also included Carl's appearance on the South Bank Show complete with interview by Melvyn Bragg.

Yes, this was a great show and Carl looked sleek and in top form all in black with open-neck shirt. Date was November 5, 1977 on THAT NASHVILLE MUSIC with host Bobby Bare.

Watching Carl singing I'm So lonesome I Could Cry (in which his phrasing keeps pretty much to Hank Williams) made me wish he'd recorded more Hank Williams' material. Carl's "country" voice was perfectly suited to it. Not surprisingly really when you think back to some of his very earliest own compositions such as Turn Around.

Chris, I often thought that myself. He was well suited to Hank Williams songs but recorded very few of them; Jambalaya, Kaw-Liga. In concert live I heard him sing great versions of "You Win Again" and "I Can't Help It". His recordings of "Turn Around" and "Let the Jukebox Keep on Playing" were very Hank Williams like in sound.

He also recorded a fine version of 'Hey Good Lookin''.

I heard him do "I Can't Help It" live and agree he sang it brilliantly. Just think what a "Carl Perkins sings Hank Williams " album could have been like! Funnily enough, I dug out his version of "Hey Good Lookin'" after making my post yesterday!

Yes, he recorded "Hey, Good Looking" in rockabilly style for Columbia in 1958.

"Bird Dog" was also included in that Everly medley but was cut from this clip.
