After completing a similar project on Little Richard, myself & some friends are trying to collect together every available pro filmed clip on Carl Perkins (next will be Chuck Berry, though that's some months away)... anyway, I used to have a VHS tape with:

Live at Snape Maltings, 1978 (BBC TV, 25 minutes)

Live in Oslo, 1978 (about 35 minutes)

Unfortunately I no longer have these, & no one else seems to either! So does ANYONE here have these shows on video or DVD?

Here's a short clip of Snape Maltings, from a recent rebroadcast:

Apparently Carl Perkins was a sex pest, something I don't believe a word of (if they'd wrote it about Chuck or Jerry I might believe it!)...

I don't believe it either. The whole Jimmy Savile thing seems strange, doesn't it? Why wouldn't they take action against him while he was still alive?

I think when someone's a bit "weird" (Saville, Glitter, etc) people want to believe it. Jimmy Page was well-known for his liking of underage girls during the 70s, Paul McCartney almost certainly got a 15 year old girl pregnant, and Elvis of course moved underage Priscilla into his home... yet no-one's banning Led Zeppelin / Beatles / Elvis records from radio and TV or rewriting history making out that they never existed except as perverts.

On this day in 1998 we lost Carl Perkins, 'The Hillbilly Cat', who died in the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN. after a series of heart attacks. His musical importance was enormous and certainly was far beyond his most famous song "Blue Suede Shoes." Here's an interesting documentary about Carl, his roots and his life.

I've just finished putting together an "ultimate" 2-DVD compilation, also designed a nice cover:

Same as Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl continued releasing interesting new material throughout his career!

Merry Christmas everyone.

PS. The "add image to post" thing on this forum never works for me (always uploads about 28% then stops). Very annoying!

Keep on trying Peter, maybe it's because of the adult content that sticks to your name as nude phtotgrapher

Is it Linda or Van Morrison who had the disastrous sessions with Carl Perkins?

Anyone?

Presumably they're referring to Van Morrison. Certainly he made "unsuccessful overtures to Jerry Lee Lewis" when Jerry lived in Ireland in 1993-94.

I was a little surprised that Van wasn't invited to duet with Jerry on his song 'What Makes The Irish Heart Beat' (on LMS)... we all know about the very public fall out between Van and Linda Gail, but I doubt if that would bother Jerry or Jimmy Rip!

That's how I read it as well. Anyone heard about these "disastrous" sessions with Carl Perkins and Van Morrison? Came to think about "Sitting on Top of the World" on the "Good Rocking Tonight - The Legacy of Sun Records" album with Carl and Van Morrison. Does not sound very "disatrous" to me.
