A missed opportunity for sure Peter. He has many fans over there, I know by the amount of MICKEY GILLEY books I have sent overseas. Mike Robinson in London has collected everything Gilley has recorded. Hugh McCallum also did the same and even visited Gilley in Texas in 1966. I sent his book to Germany, Holland, England, Sweden.

Thanks for info Paul!
I never knew he was in Europe....and it's really sad he never came over for shows.
Probably he had much to do in the States over the decades it seems.

Mervyn Conn should have booked him for one of the Country Music Festivals. He could also be booked for a rock'n'roll Weekender doing his old Jerry Lee covers and things like Drive In Movie, Call Me Shorty, etc. Don't The Girls Get Prettier At Closing Time would also go down well at a rock'n'roll venue.

For those you you want to know how Mickey is doing. Please find below the full episode of the Penny Gilley TV show from Grapevine, TX, presumably recorded in June this year. Mickey sings 3 songs and is interviewed in between and talks about the book "Unconquered". In particular the 2nd and 3rd songs show that Mickey is still in very good spirits despite the fact his left hand will probably never fully recover.

Enjoy! (Mickey start at 10:20 minutes)

Brilliant! Great selection of songs. I always thought 'She Called Me Baby' should have remained the 'A' side rather than 'Roomful of Roses' which became his first big Country hit.
