Merryville, Indiana concert question

Merryville, Indiana concert question

Postby unchained » Thu Nov 01, 2007 9:28 pm

I'm working on a couple of cd covers for my personal use and I
can't seem to figure out the recording date from this particular concert. :?
I got it like like this:

? . ? .1980 –Merrillville. Indiana (Country Sessions)

The cd start of with some person saying welcome to Merrillville. Indiana.
but during the intro from Don't be cruel half through the cd Jerry says he's happy to be in Illinois?

Now I've done some research on the Chuck Berry site (this site got most of Jerry's concerts listed also) and these dates popped up.

may 1981

07.05.81 - Merrillville, IN - Holiday Star Theatre
08.05.81 - Mt. Vernon, IL - Private Function

Could this be the correct date(s) from this cd?

Peter, anyone?

It's on my (very accurate) audio list which I sent to you: early September 1980. He also did a show in Chicago (Illinois) in September 1980, so perhaps some songs are from this concert too (or Jerry could've just got confused: sometimes he's even said he's in the wrong country!).

Incidentally there were at least two different broadcasts of 'Country Sessions', with slightly different song lists (for full details see the 'Killer!' book). My audio is a combination of the two:

Rockin’ My Life Away / Over The Rainbow / Tennessee Saturday Night / Georgia On My Mind / Drinkin’ Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee / You Win Again / What’d I Say / Come On In / Sweet Georgia Brown / Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On / There Must Be More To Love Than This / Don’t Be Cruel / High School Confidential / GBF / WLS – Meat Man – You Can Have Her – Good Golly Miss Molly – Folsom Prison Blues (Medley)

I should add that it can't be from as late as May 1981: I recognise the bass playing as Duke Faglier's & the drumming as Elton Griffin's (they both had distinctive styles), & they'd left the band by the April 1981 European tour.

Sharp ears Peter, then I'm going Chicago (Illinois) and Merrillville, IN.

Do you maybe also have a list of all the band members, and how long
they played with Jerry and during what time?

Yes, but only to the nearest year (not the exact dates or months of joining & leaving).

Yes, I believe they were broadcast in May 1981 (I recall audios of these first circulating when Jerry was ill in hospital in the summer of '81). This is why most people seem to think they shows were taped (performed) then, but they weren't.
