LET'S STOMP! (New Book featuring JLL)

Postby PeterC » Tue Mar 31, 2020 8:24 pm

Hi All,

Hope everyone is keeping well in these very strange times.

I’ve been working very hard writing a book for the past 12 months, and , with impeccable bad timing(!), I published it today - see below.

All the best,

Peter C.

NEW BOOK: ‘LET’S STOMP!’ (PRESS RELEASE, 31st March 2020)

Question: What do ‘Halfway To Paradise’ by Billy Fury, ‘Sweets For My Sweet’ by The Searchers, ‘Do You Love Me’ by Brian Poole and The Tremeloes, ‘The Hippy Hippy Shake’ by The Swinging Blues Jeans, ‘Silhouettes’ by Herman’s Hermits and ‘Sorrow’ by The Merseys ALL have in common?

Answer: As well as all being timeless classics of course, they were all covers of songs originally recorded by American artists, in these cases, respectively, Tony Orlando, The Drifters, The Contours, Chan Romero, The Rays and The McCoys.

Rock ‘n’ Roll, Rhythm ‘n’ Blues, Jazz, Country, Folk, Blues, Pop, Soul, Girl Groups, Musicals... these are just some of the American music genres that inspired The Brits, who ultimately would come up with many new musical genres of their own.

Covering the dozen or so years from the dawn of Rock ‘n’ Roll & Skiffle in 1954 to the decline of the Beat Groups in 1967, and featuring over 2000 songs and 1500 different artists, this book really is the ultimate guide to the music that changed the world.

NOTE: Below is the link to the e-book version; the paperback should appear within the next 48 hours or so. Keep checking on Amazon, or alternatively email me and I’ll let you know when it’s available: peterchecksfieldauthor@gmail.com

Stay safe!

Thanks Guilherme and Ian! It was by far the hardest book to write (particularly writing and reviewing thousands of songs), but I'm pleased with it.

I've changed the e-book version around a bit, so you'll now see a lot more of the main book if you "look inside":

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B086LG82KQ

I should add though, it is not displaying that great on amazon, as the small black boxes should be black stars (representing my favourite cover versions), and the larger black squares should be squiggles separating each section.

Hope everyone's OK in these strange times!

Just saying I'm doing okay and congratulations to you Peter with your new book.
Makes me young again and back in the sixties, thanks for bringing that music back in the spotlight.
My life will never be the same.

Good to know you're OK Piet! :D

There are literally THOUSANDS of UK 50s/60s covers listed in my book, many good, more bad, and even more indifferent.

Of the JLL covers above, 'Bread and Butter Man' by The Nashville Teens is particularly fascinating. Vocally it's terrible, but could the faster and wilder arrangement be the same as The Killer himself used on stage while backed by the very same group in 1964?

Hi All,

As a probably temporary move to give sales a boost, I've reduced the prices for all my books:

LET'S STOMP = £12.95 (instead of £19.95) https://peterchecksfield.com/lets-stomp/

CHANNELLING THE BEAT = £19.95 (instead of £24.95) https://peterchecksfield.com/channelling-the-beat/

LOOK WOT THEY DUN = £11.95 (instead of £12.95) https://peterchecksfield.com/look-wot-they-dun-2/

THE BEATLES: TELL ME WHAT YOU SEE = £11.95 (instead of £12.95) https://peterchecksfield.com/the-beatle ... t-you-see/

Prices are also lower in other countries. Grab them while you can!

Best wishes,

Peter C.
